Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

The easiest way to get started is by submitting the contact form on our website, or by calling us directly. We offer a brief, complimentary phone consultation where we can discuss your needs, answer any questions you may have, and help you determine if our services align with your goals. From there, we'll guide you through the intake process and match you with a therapist who is the best fit for you.

Your first session, often called an intake session, is primarily about getting to know each other. Your therapist will review confidentiality, discuss your history, current concerns, and what you hope to gain from therapy. It's a safe space for you to share openly, and for your therapist to begin understanding your unique situation. You'll also have the opportunity to ask any questions you have about the process or your therapist's approach.

While the typical therapy session runs 50-60 minutes, the overall duration of therapy is highly individual. It depends on your unique goals, the nature of your concerns, and how consistently you engage in the process. Some clients find resolution for specific issues in a few months, while others benefit from longer-term support for deeper exploration or ongoing personal growth. We'll regularly discuss your progress and tailor the duration of therapy to your evolving needs, ensuring your journey is effective and meaningful.

  • Individual Therapy: Focuses on your unique personal experiences, thoughts, and feelings. It's a one-on-one space to explore self-development, cope with personal challenges, and achieve individual goals.
  • Couples Therapy: Involves you and your partner, focusing on improving communication, resolving conflicts, deepening intimacy, and strengthening your relationship dynamic.
  • Family Therapy: Includes multiple family members and addresses communication patterns, relationship dynamics, and conflicts within the family system, aiming to foster healthier interactions for the whole family.

At Healing Words Therapy, our approach is integrative, person-centered, and evidence-based. This means we tailor therapeutic strategies to your specific needs, focusing on your strengths and goals. Our therapists utilize a range of proven modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), play therapy, psychodynamic approaches, and more, as outlined in our Services section. We believe in providing compassionate, collaborative, and effective care.

During your initial consultation, we'll ask about your specific concerns, preferences (e.g., gender of therapist, specific therapeutic approaches you're interested in), and availability. We then carefully match you with a therapist within our group practice whose expertise, specialties, and therapeutic style are best suited to help you achieve your goals.

Yes! Healing Words Therapy provides comprehensive mental health services for individuals across the lifespan, including children (ages 6+), adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Our diverse team has specialized training to meet the unique needs of each age group and relationship dynamic.

Our fees for individual, family, or couples counseling sessions range from $150 to $250 per session. The exact fee depends on the therapist's level of experience and the specific service provided. We also offer a limited number of sliding scale slots for those with demonstrated financial need. Please inquire about these during your initial consultation.

Yes, we are committed to making our services accessible. We have therapists who are in-network with the following insurance panels:

  • Aetna
  • Humana
  • Cigna
  • Optum
  • UnitedHealthcare
  • UMR
  • Oxford
  • Oscar Health
  • Harvard Pilgrim

Choosing private pay offers several benefits, including:

  •  Enhanced Privacy: Your therapy records remain confidential between you and your therapist, with no information shared with insurance companies.
  •  No Diagnosis Required: You are not required to receive a mental health diagnosis, which becomes part of your health record, allowing therapy to focus purely on your personal goals and well-being.
  • Flexible Treatment: You and your therapist have full control over the length and type of therapy, without limitations or mandates from insurance providers.

If your insurance is not listed, or if you prefer to pay privately, we can provide you with a superbill (a detailed receipt) that you can submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Many insurance plans offer out-of-network benefits, but it's essential to confirm this with your provider beforehand.

Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of effective therapy. What you discuss with your therapist is strictly confidential and protected by law. There are a few legal exceptions, such as if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or in cases of suspected child or elder abuse. Your therapist will discuss these limits of confidentiality with you during your first session.

We require [24] hours' notice for cancellation or rescheduling of appointments. This allows us to offer the slot to another client in need. Sessions canceled with less than [24] hours' notice will be subject to the full session fee.

We offer both in-person sessions at our Davie office and convenient telehealth (video) sessions. Telehealth allows you to receive therapy from the comfort and privacy of your own home, making quality care more accessible, especially for those with busy schedules or transportation challenges.

Therapy can be beneficial for anyone seeking personal growth, coping strategies, or support through life's challenges. If you're experiencing persistent feelings of sadness, anxiety, stress, relationship difficulties, or simply feel "stuck," therapy can provide a safe and objective space to explore these issues and develop new pathways forward. We invite you to schedule a complimentary consultation to discuss if therapy is the right fit for your unique situation.

  • Therapist/Counselor/Psychotherapist (like those at Healing Words Therapy): These are licensed mental health professionals (e.g., LCSWs, LMHCs, LMFTs) who provide talk therapy to help individuals explore emotions, thought patterns, and behaviors, and develop coping skills. They cannot prescribe medication.
  • Psychologist (Ph.D. or Psy.D.): Also provide talk therapy and often specialize in psychological testing and assessment. In most states, they cannot prescribe medication.
  • Psychiatrist (M.D.): Medical doctors who specialize in mental health. They can diagnose mental health conditions, provide therapy, and are primarily responsible for medication management.
